Laser welding, NADCAP accreditation in Avellino site

Un auditor NADCAP segna su un foglio le conformità nel corso di un audit.
It identifies those who excel at manufacturing quality product through superior special processes. In Campania’s site, Ecor International is involved in PoEMA network: the company carries out welding activities on aircraft turbines stator blades made of nickel superalloys.

Ecor International, without any non-compliance, achieved NADCAP accreditation for laser welding processes conducted at the plant in Morra De Sanctis, in the province of Avellino.

Acronym for the National Aerospace and Defense Contractors Accreditation Program, NADCAP is a worldwide cooperative program which involves top companies operating in the aerospace and defense sectors. It is designed to manage a consensus approach to special process accreditation and provide continual improvement within the aerospace industry, by setting common international standards and auditing criteria worldwide.

The accreditation guarantees that laser welding processes for nickel’s superalloys are in compliance with the series of control list established by NADCAP authority. The certification identifies those who excel at manufacturing quality product through superior special processes. It also defines the continuous improvement to satisfy customers’ requirements and industry’s specifications.

In Morra de Sanctis site, an auditor at Performance Review Institute (organization in charge of NADCAP accreditation) verified testing procedures, operating instructions, fulfillment and, at least, the cleaning phase of robotic welding process.

«This accreditation is an important achievement for us. It shows that we respect process’ requirements expected by Rolls-Royce in components’ welding for his customer, EMA (Rolls-Royce’s subsidiary company) -says Ilaria Fierro, R&D Project Engineer in Morra De Sanctis-. It’s one of the key steps that will allow as to start laser welding activities, in place of TIG technology, on aircraft turbines stator blades, that is also our task in PoEMA network. Now we will continue laser welding plant start-up in order to receive customer’s approval on a product basis».

«Companies such as Ecor International work hard to obtain this status and they should be justifiably proud of it -states Joe Pinto, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the Performance Review Institute. We are proud to support continual improvement in the aerospace industry by helping companies be successful and we look forward to continuing to assist the industry moving forward».
